The Zeitghost

June 2, 2012

When I make a figure like this, reflecting an aspect of contemporary life, it really makes me think about life and what drives people to such extremes. How much do we really know about the politics of the world we live in and why is there so much greed and conflict. I guess there are no absolute answers other than the fact we humans are somewhat flawed.

Anyway back to the sculpture, I’m struggling with these sacrificial figures because they’re purely based on personal aesthetic judgements. I want to convey a feeling and  theres almost too much freedom and choice, which is changing my approach to sculpture. My only remit is to maintain the integrity of the figure and to beautify the brutality of the idea. It’s one of those ideas that will evolve through doing as opposed to working it out in a sketch book.
