The Grief Sketches

September 11, 2012

In 1992 my sister’s life was taken and I struggled to cope with the tragedy, Wendy was only 31. These are some sketches I did at the time, I recently discovered them and was drawn to the uncomfortable nature of this work.

In 2002 my other sister Amanda died shortly after having a son, she was 42, this second tragedy really troubled me and has had a dramatic effect on my vision and ideals as an artist. It has opened up a dichotomy within me where beauty, truth and reality fight, it’s a constant battle that often produces unpredictable work.
