I now feel drawn to writing down my thoughts and it is becoming important to my whole creative process, like today I spent most of my day in a shopping mall all I bought was a coffee a sketch book and some pens so that I could draw and write. So I just wrote my thoughts down, and here they are –
There’s nothing like a blank page or empty space to inspire one to create something to fill the void, I sometimes long for that feeling of emptiness just for the buzz and excitement of raw creativity. It’s a very testing process and requires a level of resourcefulness, innovation and a lot of soul searching which really peels away the layers revealing a greater level of truth from within. To survive in society we all have to wear masks to some extent in order to fit in and live up to required expectations but art can provide a window on some simple truths of being. In my own creative life I became trapped in a sea of chaos bombarded and pressurised into actions of increasing irrelevance, very much like a pinball (out of control). In the end I couldn’t pretend or play the game any more I just had to start over and unmask my creativity.

I think as an artist you have a responsibility to explore and share your work as much as possible, of course there will be a mixed reaction from complete disinterest to great affinity, but within that range some people will be touched and others encouraged to explore their own work knowing that they are not alone. At the moment I am in a good place with my work, I have had to gamble and go slightly AWOL to get here but I’m feeling quite free, it is a place that is respectful and positive about life. By giving up my naive aspirations for success in terms of fame and money (it’s the romantic notions of a struggling artist) I have been able to direct my energies into producing art for the sake of (and belief in) art.
The sharing of my work through different electronic media has really brought my creativity to life, I don’t fear the judgments as I expose my work and ideas instantly (after all we all make mistakes and get a little carried away at times) and if I’m lucky I get a bit of feedback too. In the big world all I could ever hope for is to make a little difference but in my own world my changing approach has revolutionised my whole life and it’s just the beginning.
My passion for art comes from being born into a house crammed full of painting and sculpture, it is all I have ever known and why I am driven to pursue a meaningful existence within the arts exploring a visual language that is both complex and beautiful.
