A Variation on the Line

February 19, 2013

This is aother variation on the gesture of a single line and the origin of my concept of stripping down the creative expression to one mark. I started out on this concept with the intention of a monochrome expression of one line, I imagined the line to be a simple representation of self based on how I would place myself in the hypothetical enviroment of a blank canvas. It was an intuitive gesture based on a  feeling, then I started to run with the idea in a digital format. Firstly I used words but felt this was a distraction for the viewer as it enforced the seed of an idea which broke the freedom of a contemplative interpretation. My only suggestion with this piece is to say try to think of the mark as yourself and each variation as a possible expression of self, again this is a work in progress and the intention would be to print it out on  large canvases to be exhibited as a continual line. Anyway have a look and see what you think
