Preparing work for Hampstead Affordable Art Fair

June 2, 2013

Of late I’ve spent much time developing new ideas through an extensive period of sketching and Hampstead AAF offered the perfect opportunity to test a few of them out. So I’ve been back in the studio producing a few sculptures and I’m very happy with the results because I feel I’ve been able to capture and express contemporary themes in a fluent manner. I’ll be showing the work through Linda Blackstone who has exhibited my work both internationally and in the UK.

I never truly explain the thinking behind my equestrian sculpture because I don’t work in a literal way, it is a visual language beyond words and is all about a depth of feeling untainted by a narrative. What you see, is what you see and what you feel, is what you feel because I make no pretence, it comes from a genuine place. Sometimes I can’t even explain my sculptures to myself because creativity is a mysterious force. It’s all I have ever done and all that I ever want to and to try to explain the air of mystery surrounding the creative process that never fails to charm and allure my complete attention would do it an injustice.

Recently turning fifty has reawakened my passion for sculpture and fuelled my determination to take equestrian sculpture to a whole new level where I can express anything I feel through the complex possibilities of composition and inter-relating forms and volume. It’s a bold challenge that I feel is already producing some interesting new concepts.

And so crazy sculptures for a crazy world?

The whole of life is based on a series of complicated relationships that define our existence, can you make sense out of it?

And the deadline for delivery was met after a fifteen and a half hour day.

Followed by a tired 400+ mile drive delivery

  1. Beautiful new work! Best wishes for the Fair.
I agree with you that it is difficult to explain artwork even to oneself. But that’s ok, it doesn’t need to be explained, it can just be.
