Speculative Gesture

October 18, 2014

Today I found the time to assemble some of my fragments into a new figure, I’m trying to combine my different elements of approach in the hope that I can alter my ways of seeing. It’s this endless personal battle that I have in an attempt to liberate my thinking beyond my current limitations. These little compositions are really speculative gestures, which I hope will be a catalyst for some fresh ideas. My whole process to art is quite raw and transparent and my thinking and conceptual evolution is dependent on what feels like an exploration of chance through endeavour. For a long time my vision felt too clear and my ideas felt like they were set in stone, I think this was much to do with the process of sculpture, however through time my approach evolved encompassing the reality of my studio environment. Now I work surrounded by my own sculpture, developing my established elements into new compositions, gradually stretching my outlook so that I can develop ideas beyond my imagination.
