The art of being & The being of art

December 28, 2014

150

I end this year ready to move forward in the pursuit of unfettered art, taking a new understanding of my subject and my strong sense of personal metamorphosis. Out is the judgmental poison that clouded my vision and out is any recognition of a viable art world that once fuelled a blind ambition. I will take much forward with me, but will leave more behind as I close in on a more meaningful purpose and meaning to my creativity.

152

I’m in no doubt about the purpose of art to me, art as a non elitist expression that is universally accessible and relevant to the reality of being. But all I can be sure of is the intent, because outcome is always unpredictable when you don’t contrive expression. It is freedom that is always of a primary concern to me and my hope is that through art I will have a heightened sense of the actuality of being.

Life in general proves to be a massive distraction to me as I’m continually bombarded with so much imagery and information  that I’m unable to cognitively digest and process it into anything deeply meaningful. If anything this bombardment disconnects me from a true sense of being, which is the actual intent and philosophy behind capitalism. All I need is to feel connected deeply to my being and wider physical environment, a life dictated by the cosmological reality of living on a planet in space.

151

Through the honest intent of my art I’m becoming more aware of the fundamentals of being and I feel a great sense of purpose through the growth of consciousness that comes from an increased understanding of self. It gives my life a sense of meaningfulness that I need in order to continue my practice with passion and sincerity. It is also refreshing to live amidst the madness of modern life and experience the stillness and satisfaction of being in which you realise your needs are basic and simple. So out goes my ambition and shallow ego as I dump the life times load of bullshit that the art world has dumped upon my being.

Surely the time is approaching where change is needed in the world and I live in hope with foolish optimism that the collective consciousness can create shifts on the broadest of levels. I could be wrong but at least a life lived with sincere intent has a meaning and it’s empowering because it constitutes a reality which is all I have.

148

I feel that as an artist you must feel free to follow your intuition and impulse to the point where you know you have found your truth, however this feels like a near impossibility, because we unknowingly deceive ourselves. But slowly in my own life I’m getting closer to knowing who and what I am as I fight against the enforced compromise that society imposes on us all.
