Beyond Redemption

February 11, 2015

361Sometimes it feels there is simply no way back to that feeling, space or place because there is never a way back to what you once were. life is just  so transitory and full of moments that you hold on to for nostalgia’s sake. My stark reality is one of just packing up my bag and moving  on, embracing the new so I don’t become trapped in stasis. So beyond redemption is the place to be and not held in limbo by previous acts or statements.

It is an area that concerns me because I always feel trapped and it is my fault, trapped by the expectations of others upon me which leads to great restrictions. This is because my art became a gesture in which I was seeking personal growth, in which I looked for a favourable reply and here was an imbalance that drove me towards a safer option. An option that didn’t offend or challenge too much, which brings me to describing yet another dichotomy in the practice of art and part of the journey which an artist must take in order to break free. On this journey one is teased by the tenuous state of expression which is truly vulnerable to external forces and is something that at times requires complete protection. However as you get older you finally realise that in order to satisfy your soul, that you must push on regardless of those external factors, so that your life as an artist has a significance. Again it is about the purity of connection, something that I feel you only understand when you make finally them, because it’s intuitive.

So the practice divides into the act of creativity, the space and place of artistic gestures and the exposure of the work and subsequent reactions. My current way of thinking is that strength of character and courage is vital to create the work that you believe in, in spite of possible reactions or the perceptions of  what the reactions may be. I’m really explaining my next step into a more mature outlook and one in which I can move forward unswayed by any storms it may create. Art as a statement of true belief, made through a fearless approach, my art that is important and meaningful to me, art pushed as far as I can, so that I’m extended to the max.

It really makes sense in a way that your whole life is leading towards something that becomes ever more meaningful with the weight of experience that brings so much value and self belief. And this is why the continuation of the journey is so vital, the leaps beyond redemption into no mans land where you take the risk and deal with the consequences. The reinvention’s of a life that is far from ordinary or predictable.
